aug. 25, 2004 - 13:40 - linger on, your pale blue eyes

an amazing thing just happened... (at least, a moment poignant enough to overcome the inertia of procrastination and propel my absentee alter-ego to post to a tremendously sleepy site).

........

just before: a somewhat routine walk home from the corner market. (a frequent post-lunch destination that simultaneously escapes the office, and satiates the rockstar need; who would guess $2 could go so far?).

it's cold. crisp. see your own breath type crisp. pre-fall foggy—more like a mist, really—and raining. i have my columbia raincoat on, and am walking with head down, following it's yellow reflection on wet streets ahead of me. you know, true portland style.

:w robertscottelder: an amazing thing just happened. robertscottelder: routine walk to cafe.. but it’s cold. crisp. see your breath crisp. foggy, and raining. robertscottelder: i have my yellow raincoat on. true portland style. steviet: that's amazing? robertscottelder: i round this corner, near an empty lot, and come face to face with this husky/wolf creature. he’s standing on a bluff over the walk, and just barely looking down on me with sharp blue eyes. clearly domestic (he has a collar), but there, on that uncut (and frankly, wild) lot, in this foggy rain, he looked truly extraordinary. like right there, at that instant, he knew 1000’s of years of animal history, and was tasting it for the first time. steviet: cool robertscottelder: and looking at him, looking at me... just silence. robertscottelder: he turns to go back into the lot, and i walk on. but.. it was one of those pointed moments. one of those that only afterwards you realize you’ve stopped breathing. you’ve stopped thinking about work, or groceries, or... robertscottelder: just in that instant. it was awesome. robertscottelder: that dog was definately closer to wild than it was to domestic. he was hanging out because he wanted to be, not because he had to. his coat just blended into the fog.. only sharp blue eyes to betray him. steviet: i sense envy robertscottelder: anyway. back in sterile office. preparing to pick up queue from melo, and return to the “real” *cough* world.
